Born in Wilmington, Delaware, Melissa grew up in a highly artistic family.  Some of Melissa's earliest memories are of singing original little ditties into her Fisher Price tape recorder and choreographing dances and plays with her sisters. Her father, an award-winning country folk singer/songwriter, taught Melissa guitar and exposed her to the art of songwriting. Her mother, an interior and floral designer, artist and businesswoman, encouraged Melissa to pursue her artistic endeavors.

Within just two weeks of picking up the guitar for the first time, Melissa wrote her first serious original song. She recorded her first CD in the basement of her home a year later.
